Words for Winter Sports in Spanish
Most Spanish-speaking countries arent known for the winter sports, even though some of the worlds best skiing, even if less developed than elsewhere, can be found in some of them. As a result, many of the Spanish words for winter sports have been imported, so if youre ever skiing in the Andes of South America or in the Pyrenees of Spain, dont be surprised to hear statements or phrases like hacemos snowboard and el halfpipe. Such linguistic adaptations shouldnt be surprising. After all, English words such as ski and slalom come from Norwegian. Importing from other languages is one of the most common ways for a languages to grow, and Spanish is no exception. Pronunciation of imported words generally more or less follows that of the originating language with some variations. For example, the h of hockey may not be silent, and the word may end up sounding something like the English hokey. Julius Caesar was a Roman Dictator who was both loved and hated by those that he ruled over. Throughout the world, he has been written about in a variety of different ways and is portrayed as a politician as well as a selfish dictator. Three ââ¬Å"firsthandâ⬠accounts that were written to give us a better understanding of Julius Caesar were ââ¬Å"The Assassination of Julius Caesarâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Tranquillus, Gaius Suetoniusâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"Plutarch, The Assassination of Julius Caesar, from Marcus Brutusâ⬠. We will explore the writings and explain how he is viewed from those around him and compare that to the history portrayed in the History books. With this, we will be able to get a better idea of who he was. No mention of how he led the people or whether or not he was a good or bad leader is presented in this tale, just focusing on just the death of Julius Caesar. This first-hand account is just one of the stories that help to define Julius Caesar and describe his life and death as the Roman Emperor. The second account of Julius Caesar comes from his very own biographer Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus who had access to imperial archives.(Tranquillus, Gaius Suetonius. Lives of the 12 Caesars.) This tale discusses the same assassination plot through the eyes of the Emperor himself and what was written in the archives. His account is written in a much different tone than the first and sets out to paint Julius Caesar in a much brighter light. In the previous tale not much was mentioned of Caesars style of governing, but this story labels the assassination as a conspiracy and more focused on the side of the government that was attacked as opposed to taking down a dictator. Through a very disrupted writing side, Tranquillus goes through a very detailed description of the assault as well as through the mindset of Julius Caesar to help convince the readers that it was a heinous and violent attack.
